Gundam Build Fighters Discussion - The Best Fights of the Series

Gundam Build Fighters Discussion - The Best Fights of the Series
Written by Team GG Johnny Ridden

Let’s start off by stating that this article is opinionated and based only on our thoughts. This in no way speaks for everybody. Moving on I’d like to say thank you Bandai for giving us such a great series. Gundam Build Fighters was a refreshing take on most if not all our favorite Gundam series. It brought back old & new mobile suits in new animations.  So what else was great about it? The battles and below are my top five picks for the Best Fights on Gundam Build Fighters.

#5: Sei vs Tatsuya (Episode 25)

This Episode was the final episode of the show and it started off with non-stop action. We got to see some of our favorite characters go all out and some new comers definitely steal the show(Master Chinan & Mr. Ral). But the final battle we saw was a true rendition of the whole plot of the series. Building Confidence in yourself and team work. We saw the Star Build Strike with Gundam Fenice Rinascita arms & The Crossbone Moah’s Weapons going up against Tatsuya’s Amazing Exia Repair with Kampfer Amazing limbs and weapons. Although Reiji started the fight, it was handed down to Sei who after all of 25 episodes we finally get to see him be the Fighter he was always meant to be. Unfortunately with the last of the Plavsky Particle, it is up to us to decide the winner.

#4 Reiji vs Meijin Kawaguchi (Episode 24)

We finally got to see the Exia Dark Matter in action and boy was it something. The animation was nice and smooth, while keeping the action tensed. I felt for Reiji and Sei when the Star Build Strike was powered down. But ultimately it was nice to see a this guy in battle. The color scheme was very nice and it’s interesting to think that the Gundam Exia was the bad guy.

# 3 Meijin Kawaguchi vs The Renato Brothers (Episode 18)

In this episode, the Meijin was pitted against the Renato Brothers who up till then were quite mysterious. After the battle with Luang Dallara, we were left puzzled on how the GM K9 was able to defeat him with pistols. We then find out how with miniature Zeon soldiers (ZEON SOLDIERS IN A FEDDIE SUIT!?!?! Blasphemy! *Ahem-hem GPO2A). With the addition of the EXAM system, had Kawaguchi not been a lead character he would’ve surely lost. But instead we see that he lured the GM K9 to the location of his dropped weapons and was able to defeat the brothers.

#2 Sei & Reiji vs Ricardo Fellini (Episode 15)

Finally we got to see Seiji (Sei & Reiji) and Fellini duke it out in order to claim victory and enter the top 16 to continue onto the Quarter finals. Though Fellini was already a shoe-in for entry, Seiji needed the win to get into 16th place.  With his pride front and center Fellini put up the fight not going easy on his apprentice. Throughout the battle he would critique Seiji’s attacks and at first we saw them losing, yet once Sei reached the resolve to win by sacrificing his machine, we saw a great battle. With the Wing Gundam Fenice rising from the ground, every angle was superb. Ultimately I found the ending satisfying.

And last but not least….

#1 Sei & Reiji vs Tatsuya Yuki

Yes this was my favorite battle because we saw Reiji lose his desire to fight, and then regain it. We saw what it meant to be a “Fighter.” Yes there were many great lines and memorable quotes from Mr. Ral and Chief Allan. This is one of those episodes you should watch when you’re in a rut with building GunPla. The action and scenes were fantastic.

So what were your top 5?  Leave a comment down below.

  1. "loosing" is not a word, but I assume you mean "losing". Awesome review overall :)

  2. What can I say, not in that order but yeah I COMPLETELY agree with you chosing those 5 fights as the top of all GBF battles.
Would Exia Dark vs Build S as the 2nd place but o well still a good choosing (~*¬*)~

  3. Where's Amazing Exia vs F91 Imagine?

Well I consider that the best fight too

  4. If we're only discussing 1-on-1 fights, the best for me were:
    5) Ep18: Bloodhounds. Kampfer Amazing vs GM Sniper K9 -- because it's not often you see the Meijin barely getting by each assault and because it was, in my opinion, an interesting take on combat in an abandoned urban zone in the rain (also, the War in a Pocket reference was cool).

    4) Ep08: Encounters of Fighters. Sengoku Astray vs Tallgeese Valkyrie -- because of the systematic way Nils took down Greco and because the fight was so different from the standard beamsaber/rifle/shield gunpla fights.

    3) Ep22: Meijin vs Meijin. Amazing Exia vs F91 Imagine -- because I think it's the best fast-moving fight in the series (the Trans-Am vs Back Jet Stream scenes were done so well)

    2) Ep06: A Reason to Battle. Zaku Amazing vs Build Strike Full Package -- because of the brutality of the fight and the resolve of the characters.

    1) Ep15: Fighter's Radiance. Star Build Strike vs Wing Gundam Fenice -- because apart from being a great no-holds-barred fight, I found this to be the most emotionally engaging fight that captured the spirit of the anime. It showed Felini's pride, skill and seniority while showing Reiji's ability to quickly adapt. It also forced Sei to mature a bit. The ending where the fight ended up as a draw and they rebuilt their gunpla together was perfect too.

  6. I agree with you about number 1. tatsuya Yuuki with his Zaku Amazing is a really cool fighter and I should have put The kampfer amazing on nuĂ¹ber 2 but 3 is OK. I am very happy that old MS from Zeon are put in front of the show like this.

And by the way, Sieg Zeon!

  8. I think, because I'm already partial to the GM Sniper II, that it was probably the battle I watched most just to see that suit in action. In 0080: War in the Pocket, the GM Sniper II only had one decent bit of film time as it descended from the Gray Phantom's care before it was blown to bits by the Kampfer's rampage... so to see one in a full battle (again with a Kampfer) with new gear, new paintjob, and great animation was quite a bit of fun for me.

I also still liked the Battle Royale, as it showcased SO many mobile suits. It was a 2-part showing, too... so we were left on the edge of our seats for a week. I think one of the things I enjoyed so much about the series was seeing so many different mobile suits featured, so even though the one-on-one battles were more intense and exciting, it was wonderful to see so many designs take the screen together.
