  1. Am I the only one who thinks it looks really cheap? From all the soft edges to the cheesy hinges on the wing binds, it looks like a crappier than the robot damashi toy.

    1. Different from RD which have more "stylished" design, most of gunpla especially HG are faithful with their initial design (Hi-Nu Gundam is an exception). You know that Okawara's Wing Zero is bulky from the start, right?

      Delete
    2. No, I get the same vibe.
Which is funny cuz imo the RD Wing looks crappier than the HGAC Wing.

    3. It's HG 1/144, boy! What would you expect?

      Delete
    4. Yeah, the hinges on the outside of the wings especially are a real deal breaker for me. No other model that I'm aware of from the past decade has obvious hinges added to the external design like this. I would have liked it if Bandai hid those things inside the shell instead.

      Delete
    5. I'd have to agree with the hinges, those should be fixed with a cover or something...

But...It'll look WORSE than this seeing how its detailed, out of the box it'll look worse

      Delete
    6. Go buy the proto-zero then.

      Delete
    7. I only have a problem with the hinges. They couldn't hide them on the 1/60th scale ages ago which is understandable given the technology. What's the excuse here? The RD does look better but I half expect that when compared to just a standard HG kit.

    8. I know what you mean, but this is I think to make it easier to build and make it a budget release as well as being part of the All Gundam HG Project. Maybe we're just spoiled from how awesome the MG Proto Zero is.

      Delete
    9. Eh... I'm inclined to agree with you... but it is a 1/144 kit. High grade or not, they always seem to be a bit skimpy in the details and quality department. Only HG kits worth it are the bigger ones like Psycho Gundam and Kyshatria

      Delete
    10. Why are people saying we were "spoiled by MG Proto Zero"? Believe it or not, not everyone has bought or built a Proto Zero, nor do some intend to get one for one reason or another. Everyone knows that HGs are cheaper, lower end kits than MGs, but this HG Wing Zero appears to be a legitimate step back for recent HGs, as it appears to be slightly disproportionate to the official lineart, and the huge hinges on the outside of the wings are a huge eyesore. Bandai has usually been doing a good job about things like that, and this comes off as poor planning on their part. It's especially disappointing because Wing Zero TV is a kit that many people have been wanting an update to for years, and this mess is likely the best that they are ever going to get.

      Delete
    11. Some people just want a simple TV version of the Wing Zero. The Proto Zero is a cool kit, but just not the same. And now the HG is ever so slightly disappointing. Ever so slightly. Seems like Bandai doesn't really like people who enjoyed the Wing series.

Then again, Gundam X was even worse off and only recently that's been changing. I still have hope. :D

    12. gundam wing was utter shit and it failed BADLY compared to Evangelion which was also shown in 1995 it may have been good in USA but in Japan it just failed thats why bandai dont really care about the wing hg's and it's a HG to begin with what were you expecting, 00 articulation? it transforms they have to make sacrifices here and there....

      Delete
    13. Eva has nothing to do with Gundam Wing, nor does it have anything to do with this new model kit. It does not need to be brought up at all.

The HG line is a lower end line than the MGs, but there is a reason the hinges are being brought up: Even if it is a high grade, Bandai COULD HAVE designed the wings without those huge hinges there, and in most cases, they would have, but here, they didn't. Outside of color apps and sometimes accessories, Bandai never skimps out on their HG kits details, or adds something that conflicts with the look of their animated counterparts, and even if they had to include something extra for the sake of posability, they would usually came up with a way to hide it so that it wouldn't be an eyesore. No kit that I can think of from at least the past decade, HG or no, has had large, exposed hinges like this. Bandai has been trying it's damnedest to improve the HG line over the years, and they have been doing a very good job at it for the most part, but this HGAC Wing Zero just comes off is a sign of poor planning on their part.

      Delete
    14. It doesn't really look cheap, but rather it looks like it was designed to be durable and easy to use, since they've been aiming many of these new HG's at a much younger audience that would need durable hinges like these so they can play with and enjoy the kit more.

I'm not saying it looks good, but I can at least understand the design choices made here.

      Delete
    15. The problem with that is that most model kits aren't really meant for hard playing with like many kids do with normal toys, but to be used as display pieces. No matter how much work goes into them, model kits will always be way too fragile to be action figures. Those hinges just look very ugly. If Bandai absolutely had to design this thing with exposed hinges, they should have gone with how they did with the HGAC Gundam X and RD Wing Zero, where the hinges appear to be stacked on each other, and somewhat hidden inside the wing shell so that they, while still a little bit of an eyesore, would far less pronounced and more tolerable to look at than what we see here.

      Delete
    16. bitch wiggers bitching about hinges

      Delete
    17. Why can't Bandai give us at least one satisfying Wing Gundam Zero TV ?
MG, RD, HG, all of them have at least one significant issue.

      Delete
    18. would all of you complaining have this wing mechanism instead? http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10144866a/20/1 All I see is Bandai putting out a proper hinge on the wing that is within production cost. I bet when this kit comes out, none of you ranters can show a better way of making those hinges hidden or more tolerable to look at.

      Delete
    19. Then don't buy lah! Why still complain? this kit is HG. it's cheap to expect perfect-like designs. If you want perfect then cheap then wait for bootlegs to come lah! What for to complain? are you going to show-off the back side only? Yhe space inside the wing is not enough to hide the hinge based on the desigb of the anime. if they were to force the hinge inside, it will become more fragile and easy to break because it requires small amount of plastic to fit in. think first before you complain.

      Delete
  2. yeap...agree with you, looks like the quality was from some cheap store $5.99

    ReplyDelete
  3. because it looks like the TV style
    not the new design
robot damashi's DoubleX also looks better than HGAW

    ReplyDelete
  4. oddly enough i dint have a single complaint this guy is a amazing update to y first ever gundam kit and i love how this looks i just cant wait

    ReplyDelete
  5. The only thing I have a problem with is the fact that it is holding the shield in hand. Also the Proto Zero MG sorta has an obvious hinge thing in the wings too, but could they have really done that any different with as many HGs they are putting out now?
I will still buy this kit as it is the Wing Zero I remember from the anime. I also have the Robot Damashii of it too, but I like all of the versions of Zero.

    ReplyDelete
  6. For this kits haters: beeee MG did have the Proto zero but it's still PROTO! hahaha!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Bad hinge. Good overall proportions but soft clunky details. Clumsily fits together (the gap between the front and back half of the shield, the gap between the wings).

It looks like the wings on the 90s 1/144 NG are better than the wings on this. :( Might want to buy both and combine them. :(

A shame because I think most of us were expecting a quality similar to the HG Wing Gundam.

    1. It's still going to look like this. RG Strike Freedom didn't lose its fat beam rifles in the prototype stage and in the colored stage before its release.

      Delete
    2. yeah but the problem here is the "prototype" is already in color which means it's already finalized or pretty close being finalized

      Delete
    3. yeah no, this is the final product. At first I was excited about this line but now that I am seeing more and more of them, I hate it.

the katakana says "wing zero gundam"

    2. Yes, it states Wing Gundam Zero. The problem is the "HGCE" part which is obviously an error. Good thing I'm not the only one who noticed. XD

  10. Them HINGES!!!! O_O
    WTF Bandai!? Awfulness!!!

  11. Why can't can't people just accept this high grade model kit for what it is? I mean come on it hasn't even come out yet, and people are complaining about it. It still is the best model of the TV Zero we will get, which is also accurate to the proportions in the anime. If you don't like it don't buy it. Since I like it, I will buy it. And as I said before they most likely couldn't have done the wings any other way due to the ridiculous amount of HGs they are putting out now. Am I the only one who is actually pleased with how this Wing Zero looks?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Not only you. Me too are pleased with this. The hinges can be painted with white to hide it.

      Delete
    2. Bandai always puts out High Grades at a fairly quick rate, especially when a new show starts airing. Actually, I think they're putting out less than usual now because Build Fighters hasn't really introduced a lot of new designs, and most of the ones that are "new" are based on pre-existing kits with a couple new plates worth of extra parts added, which I assume would alleviate the kit designers' workload a little bit, which is probably why Bandai was able to start the "All Gundam Project" in the first place.

Even if it were the case that they were putting out more kits lately, I doubt that it would have any effect at all on the current kits' quality since it's rarely been much of an issue in the past with the ridiculous lines that AGE and 00 had. Actually, when you think about it, that gives Bandai's designers even less of an excuse now for Wing Zero's huge wing hinges, since they've always had a means of hiding necessary extra parts of that nature. The HGAW Gundam X and RD Wing Zero used a hinge system were the parts stacked on top of each other and it didn't look nearly as out of place as what we see here, and I think they're all around the same size, so I don't see any reason why a system like that couldn't have been implemented instead of this one.

      Delete
    3. Paint won't fix the problem. Those hinges, and the large boxy parts they are set in, were never a part of the original design, and they will always be an eyesore for anyone (AKA: most casual builders) who can't mod them to resemble the original design. You may be fine with it, but most of the people here aren't, and that's because Bandai put out a highly anticipated kit with such a huge eyesore when they easily could have done something different with them.

      Delete
    4. I'm a casual builder who only does handbrushing on details/certain colors and panel lines. I have no problem with the hinges. I think it's the hardcore builders who have more problems with this kit, actually.

      Delete
  12. I think this looks extremely good.
But seriously why is everyone here complaining about the hinges?
You won´t be seeing them anyways since you will just have it standing somewhere.

  14. Why does the Gunpla community focus so much on what they don't like about a kit before they actually build it (or after) they build it so much?

    2. Agreed. I feel like I'm the only one looking FORWARD to this kit with all the complaints. Do they have NO memory of the old NG kit?

      Delete
  15. The hinges aren't a huge issue. Here's my plan: It's an HG kit so it's cheap (1200yen or so at places like Bic Camera, Yodobashi).

    -Buy two kits
-Trim the hinge off one set and glue them closed (modified to look clean)
-Take the wings out the second kit and fix them in an open position. (scratch build a better looking joint)
-Swap the wings around for whatever pose you want
-Enjoy the 2nd wingless wing gundam desk toy

    ReplyDelete
  16. It can do the TBR in left hand pose! I thought as it held onto the shield it wouldn't be able to, that's a positive.

    ReplyDelete
  17. HEY! IT CAN DO THE ROLLING BUSTER RIFLE!!! Yep. Made my day

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well my only complaint is mute now. And I personally didn't mind the hinges anyway. I am probably going to get a lot of flack for that, but I really don't care.

    ReplyDelete
  19. from the latest scan, it seems like both foot have to detach and attach another type to make a complete bird mode. in old version, the foot can just be rotate

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm gonna agree that this thing does indeed look rather cheap. Then again, this may probably be a direct result of the shift in build quality now that Gundam Build Fighters has come along, emphasizing ease in construction and parts interchangeability over design accuracy - the latter of which HGs embodied before GBF's All Gundam Project came along. There are many differences one can pick out from All Gundam Project HGs and HGs before then, one of the most glaring being how stubby the v-fins are now.

Its cheap appearance has nothing to do with it being Okawara's design, but rather with the shift in building focus and quality. The HGAC Wing Gundam is -much- better than this, and it's part of the same line.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The Feet are PARTS-FORMERS?!?

HOW THE FUCKING HELL DOES BANDAI FUCK THAT UP?!?

When the old Wing Zero HG had swivel transformable feet...

Fuck this. I'm getting the proto-zero instead...

    Replies
    1. Did you want it to be difficult for this model to stand up on it's own? If you don't know what I am talking about get one of the old kits of the Wing Zero and see for yourself. And just be glad it can even become the Neo-Bird Mode mobile armor. Also Proto Zero has a lot of issues to deal with that you might find out to be a pain. Shoulder joint parts need to have sand paper taken to them, but not too much. Other parts need to be glued: part of the head, the shield vulcans, and the barrels to the TBR. And I have the Robot Damashii TV Zero, and I am actually glad they went with parts forming on that one, because I have the old transformable MSIA of it as well. And it is a chore to get that thing to stand on its own.

      Delete
  22. Yeah. Compared to the 00 and AGE lines, recent HGs, with a few exceptions, have been a step down.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Maybe the reason behind that feet is to preserve it's good articulation.

But this kit looks very good due to:

    1. Piledriver shield confirmed
    2. Beamsaber can be drawn from the shoulder
    3. Shield not HAND-HELD ANYMORE!!!! yahooo! rolling TBR coming up! (But i hope there's a separate part to make it hand-held too)
    4. Open wings does not look as weird as Proto Zero since this is the original Zero we are talking with!

though it missed up the following:
    1. Yeah your complain about replacing the feet... sigh
    2. Shoulder gatling looks the same as HGFC G Gundam.... another big sigh

    ReplyDelete
  24. need a lot of extra paint huh

    ReplyDelete
  25. look I know some of you all do not like the HGAC Wing Zero but who cares! This is what everyone is waiting for right? At least this is much more better than the old HG 1/100...... And the hinges on the wings is not an issue to me because i have a plan on putting a vulcan cannon on the hinges since Wing Zero uses it whenever its in it neo-bird mode even though its not seen on the anime but if you played SDGO and got an AR rank Wing Zero (Beam Saber) maybe you will know what I mean...... At least we should give Bandai some credits because they have come up with the "All Gundam Project" and they've even put Wing Zero on the that project line either......

There maybe some issues may come up a head but so what? If you're good at crafting things then you should have no problems with that.........

    ReplyDelete
  26. i hope they make a hgac Epyon ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  27. lol you can see the hinges on the box art

    ReplyDelete
  28. This is so cool! But why couldn't they make the polycaps on the hinges in white? Maybe that wouldn't make them look so bad. Anyway, I want to see how this will compare to my Master Grade Wing Zero Proto Zero Endless Waltz. Did Bandai announce a new version of the Wing Gundam Endless Waltz Master Grande and a new version for Wing Gundam Zero Endless Waltz Master Grande yet? I wish Bandai could make those 2 again because I made the Wing Gundam Endless Waltz Master Grande and the Wing Gundam Zero Endless Waltz Master Grande and I noticed that both of the model toys were using an old style inside scaffold where it was not a completed scaffold like the other Master Grande model toys like the Shenlong Endless Waltz and the other guys.

  29. I admit the hinges are out of place and could have been designed better but other than for that this looks like a terrific rendition of the Wing Gundam Zero in 1/144 model kit form. It looks like a very good comprise between being as accurate to the line art(sans the hinges) as possible and stream lining it to todays gundam mecha proportions. The colours all seem to be there with no stickers for major plastic parts and that's always a plus. All the weapons and their gimmicks are included like the extendable shield and mechanisms in the shoulder armors. Of the people complaining about the parts forming for the legs, lets not forget this is an HG. The leg transformation is really difficult to pull off in 1/144 scale without more complicated mechanisms(which is more of an MG trait) and compromising the stability of the legs. There are very few transforming HG kits i can think that doesn't have some sort of parts swapping so that complaint is not valid. Overall I'm looking forward to putting this beside my HGAC Wing Gundam and hopefully some day soon have the other Gundams as well.

    1. I have to admit, I like the appearance of this kit (again, sans the hinges which seem to be a reasonably fixable problem) so much more than even the MG Proto Zero. The original Wing Zero was always my favorite design out of all Mecha, and it frustrated me to no end seeing that almost every game/model rendition of it (except Extreme Vs's in game model) changed something that betrayed the overall aesthetic that made it look so good. I really appreciate how much this kit in particular almost perfectly captures its bulky proportions and conveys a sense of raw power and presence that the original design embodied, something the MG and Robot Damashii entirely lack making them painfully diminutive. Even though I am a MG enthusiast, I am strongly tempted to pick this kit up simply because of how faithful it is to what is my favorite mecha of all time.

Listen to your selves I mean come on if u don't like it kit bash it or something it's people like u guys the complainers that start up so many fights on these blogs my in sight on this is the hinges are fine I'm gonna have it FACING FORWARD and the feet I'm just gonna keep those in the box I'm only gonna display ms mode sure give me flack about it but admit it due to current hg designs I built and painted a hg gun EZ from the 90's I'm only 17 and I never painted before it looks fine sure the shoulder armor pops off I'm fine with that I can live with it I've only built 5 kits 1 broke 1 fell apart and the fact were getting any up dated gunpla should be a blessing, I've waited this long for a new wing zero I'll be happy to take this on * takes kit* noobs

    1. Wow 17 and you're far more mature than more than half of the posters on here who have to be in their mid to late 20s if they grew up with Gundam Wing on Toonami. You have a good head on your shoulders kid and it's good to hear you appreciate older 90's kits as even veteran gunpla fans are completely spoiled with todays kits as you can clearly tell with these comments. Having grown up with Wing myself, I for one am very pleased to see an updated version of Wing Zero in proper HGAC which hopefully means we get the rest of the suits as well. If we can't get the TV versions in MG then HGAC is the next best thing.

    2. Hey I grew up on Toonami and Wing, but I am one of the people that isn't complaining about this kit. Also I am 25, but I prefer to not call people names or anything like that in arguments. Also I try to be very civil about it. In fact I was actually relieved to hear that it is going to be a parts former. And I am a pretty big fan of Gundam Wing.

    3. Yes oh yes i'm one of you who's waiting for a great Wing Zero kit and here it is!

Though it's shoulder Gatling aren't that good (like HGFC G Gundam) and some complain about it's feet (honestly I do not really pose my kits on a "during transformation" scene), but it doesn't matter to me. Overall appearance is great and it's very cheap.

I'm waiting for other HGAC kits (cause I missed most of them during Wing's era ~ tough I only got Wing Zero, Epyon and DScytheH). Hopefully all the GW no grade kits will get their HGAC version in the future (^_^)v

    4. Couldn't have said it better myself about this kit being a great Wing Zero kit. Besides this is the best looking Wing Zero kit we will ever get,so people are just gonna have to deal with it. I like the design for this kit, and I will definitely buy it! I am a big Wing fan, but I know that this is gonna be a good kit. And I would love to see other suits get HGs from Wing as well at some point in time, but I know that won't be anytime soon.
